  the best things about it is you can still see much of it – if you know 
 where to look. Many of Los Angeles’ oldest buildings\, from when it was 
 infamous for being the most lawless and god-forsaken town in the Wild West
 \, are still standing and you’ll even go inside them on our LA: Wild Wes
 t to Now tour. First we’ll show how and why the tiny community appeared 
 on the far reaches of the Spanish Empire in 1781. Then you’ll learn abou
 t the transition of the tiny pueblo\, from being a Spanish colonial town w
 ith a population of just forty-four people\, to being a thriving farming c
 ommunity (and home of Zorro) during the Mexican years\, before being captu
 red by the Americans during the Mexican-American war of 1846-48. Finally y
 ou’ll see how it took off in the 1870’s\, before your LA: Wild West to
  Now tour finishes with some modern L.A. classics like the Broad Museum an
 d the Walt Disney Concert Hall. We’ll also stop at three really cool\, i
 nteresting\, historical places to get some great Californian food on this
